Greenfield church to host prom for special needs students
Ridge Community Church held a prom for special needs students last year, and nearly 100 attended. This year, the church plans to do it again June 4, only bigger and better. "Our intent is to show God's love to a community we feel is often marginalized," said Jodi Tonarelli, public relations director for the church.

As of right now, you no longer have to get out of bed to go to church. For weeks, The Ridge Community Church, 4500 S. 108th St., Greenfield, has offered the region's first fully interactive online church service at live.theridgecc.com with live broadcasts of the 9:45 and 11:05 a.m. Sunday services.

The Ridge Community Church is a non-traditional church in an unorthodox building. Founder and lead pastor Mark Weigt converted the former Walmart store into a spacious and inviting place of worship.”

“From boxy to holy, the Ridge Community Church pulled off its transformation of a former Walmart into a church with such success that regular shoppers of the store would be astonished. While they didn't want their church to look like a Walmart, they didn't want it to look "churchy" either. That's because they want to reach out to those who have had a poor experience with a church or are turned off if the experience comes on too strong, said Kristi Dezek, church communications coordinator.”

“The Ridge Community Church, which has purchased the former Walmart building on Highway 100 and Layton Avenue, is less than two weeks away from holding its first service. Pastor Mark Weigt said the new, massive church is on track to open Easter Sunday, with a service at 10:30 a.m.”

The Ridge Community Church will soon have a permanent home.
"The Ridge Community Church has been around since 2006, but has never really been in a church. It first started at the Marcus Ridge Theaters in New Berlin. It has since moved to Whitnall High School in Greenfield. Now, after more than six years, The Ridge is about to have a permanent home. We're not a traditional church. We're a church for people who don't want to go to church, who are struggling through life and are looking for a place and purpose," Lead Pastor Mark Weigt said.

“The Ridge Community Church, which is renovating part of the former Walmart at 4500 S. 108th St., is giving Walmart's metal garden center building to the city of Greenfield, which is currently disassembling the structure and will reassemble it at the city's Department of Public Works yard.”
