CHILD DEDICATION SERVICES
Child Dedication is for families looking to make a commitment before the church that you will do your best to raise your child to find and follow Jesus. You are accepting a need to gain wisdom, encouragement and guidance. You’re also recognizing that God has a plan for your child’s life, and you want to help your child discover that plan.
That's a BIG task, and we want to help you do that! That's why one of our favorite parts of Child Dedication is the Parent Gathering prior to the Dedication Service. It's not just another meeting - but a chance to connect with other families and walk away with practical tips and tools to parent your child in a way that makes a relationship with Jesus a priority.
*Parent Gatherings are typically held two weeks prior to the Dedication Service.
WHY CHILD DEDICATION?
The Bible gives us the best examples of child dedication:
- Jesus's dedication is the first event recorded in the Bible after His birth. Luke 2:21-40
- Additional references are found in 1 Samuel 1 & 2 and Proverbs 22: 6
WHAT ABOUT GODPARENTS?
Child Dedication does not require godparents. However, we speak of parents having mentors for their child, who are people that are willing to invest in your child’s life by building a relationship with them.
IS CHILD DEDICATION THE SAME AS BAPTISM?
No. Child Dedication does not ensure salvation. At The Ridge, we practice believer’s baptism, which means a person has already asked Jesus to live in their hearts and be their savior. Being baptized is a person’s chance to publicly declare that choice.
